City of Coimbra

  Coimbra is located in central Portugal, boasting a rich history as the country’s former capital. Right next to the charming river Mondego, the city is best known for the prestigious University of Coimbra, a baroque masterpiece, alongside its well-preserved medieval old town, where it’s easy to find many heritage monuments dating back several centuries. Travel to Coimbra

Arriving by plane to Porto: The Porto Airport – OPO is distanced about 120 km from Coimbra. From there, you can take the Coimbra Airport Shuttle or the FlixBus services, both travelling directly to Coimbra. In alternative, you can take the Metro do Porto to get to the Campanhã train station, which has multiple daily train connections to Coimbra (travel time between 1h30m and 2h30m depending on the type of train).

Arriving by plane to Lisbon: The Lisbon Airport – LIS is distanced about 200 km from Coimbra. From there, you can take the Coimbra Airport Shuttle or the FlixBus services, both travelling directly to Coimbra. In alternative, you can take the Metro de Lisboa to get to the Oriente train station, which has multiple daily train connections to Coimbra (travel time between 2h and 2h30m depending on the type of train).

Arriving by train to Coimbra: There are two railway stations in Coimbra: Coimbra (New Station, located in the city’s downtown) and Coimbra-B (Old Station, located outside the city). All trains stop at Coimbra-B, so you will need to change to a Regional or an Urbano type of train to reach Coimbra station (5-10 minutes travel time).
